South Canterbury basketball Primary School

Primary School Basketball
Years 3–6

Our Primary School competition runs September – December and is all about fun, teamwork, and skill-building.

  • Mixed-gender teams welcome
  • Schools or combined groups can enter
  • Coaching and referee support available
  • Festival grade for even teams and competitive grade for those seeking more challenge. Scores are recorded, but the focus is on development for Year 5 & 6.

Intermediate (Year 7 & 8)

  • Festival grade for social teams and competitive grade with semi-finals and finals.
  • Builds on core skills while introducing higher levels of teamwork and competition.
  • Season runs March – May

Secondary School Basketball
Years 9-13

Represent your school in weekly competitive matches. This competition supports player development with clear pathways to representative basketball.

  • Friday Night Basketball – Competitive A and B grades for juniors (Year 9–10) and seniors (Year 9–13).
  • Pathway to representative basketball and a vibrant part of our community basketball culture.
  • Week 1 of Term 2 – Second last Friday before Winter Tournament Week

Senior Competitions

The Winter League is South Canterbury’s premier club competition. Featuring local clubs and regional talent, this league offers fast-paced and high-level basketball.

  • Competitive and social leagues open to all, with multiple grades to cater to different skill levels.
  • Season runs May–August

  • A fun, off-season opportunity to stay active, develop skills, and keep connected with basketball friends.
  • Season runs November – February
